January in Iceland 2004.

Frost and a very strong wind from the north.

Snow and more snow in most places.

Avalanches falling, main roads closed for days.

A farmhouse washed away in an avalanche, one person dead.

Broken powerlines, sunken boats,.

Houses collapsed because of snow.

People are evacuated from whole streets because of fear

of avalanches.

Real Icelandic january mood, like in the old days.

BUT midwinterfeasts are starting , with all the delicious

viking receipes, so who cares, ( exept for the dead farmer )

This is Iceland today !
