Are you coming to Iceland, (Ísland) ?

  • ÿorleifur Geirsson

Hello ! I was wondering if some dutch people were planning a trip to Ísland.

The Netherlands are so great, and the people also.

I live on the west coast of Ísland, in Borgarnes.

do you have any questions about the “omgevings” of Borgarnes , or about travelling in my country? then send me a mail !

It´s really nice to travel in Ísland, so enjoy it !

One of my favorite thing to do is to go to the Netherlands.

    Regards !!!

    ÿorleifur.

    Hi,

Yes i´m going to iceland this summer, for the second time, because there are some hikes i still want to walk. So i´m still searching for the crossing near the vulcano Hekla, 2 years ago my bus stopped there, but i cant find that crossing on the map, because i need the road that goes up the mountain. So maybe you have a good map of iceland where it stands on. Or maybe you know an internet site where are good maps at so i can print it out. So i´m going to iceland the 21 juli till 11 aug. So maybe you have some hints for me for beautifull places in the innlands.

    Greetings from patrik from Holland

Maybe you can find a good map on http://www.dezwerver.nl/ .They have maps of iceland. I do not know the english word, but in dutch they call it stafkaarten. Those maps have all detailed information about the landscape.

    Good luck

You probably mean the crossing with the road to Landmannalaugar. There is a track that leads to the Hekla from the north. You can find it at the 1:100.000 map of the Thorsmork - Landmannalaugar region published by Landmaelingar Islands. It should be available in good outdoor and

map shops. I can scan a little part of the map for you. Btw there is a short description of the track in the Lonely Planet guide.

And if you want more ideas for hiking, go to Dieter Grasers site :

If you would like more information about hiking in Island, I recently bought to pocketguides. One a dutch guide contains 49 routes. It is called the “Rother Wandelgidsen” The ISBN number is 3-7633-4295-8. The other one is German and is called “wandern auf Island” and is from Dumont Aktiv. The ISBN number of this one is 3-7701-5032-5. I bought both books at “de bever” I know they have shops all over the netherlands, and can probably be found on http://www.debever.nl but I'm not sure. De Rother wandelgids" I have seen in several large bookstores.

As far as the maps concern, I know http://www.dezwerver.nl can deliver those 1:100.000 maps of landmannalaugar and Thorsmork.

The two books I described I can recommend for everyone who is visiting Iceland. I will take them with me when I go July 17th. In Iceland.

    Hallo Ingrid,

I have tried to teach myself Icelandic too. I tried it using the Linguaphone method, where you have books and tapes. To learn some words, its okay but its old fashioned. There now is a new book called learning icelandic. This book is very clear and also explains a lot of the grammar. I am know at chapter two, and allready now more icelandic then from the linguaphone books where I was at chapter 9. The books comes with a CD with spoken icelandic. The only thing is that it is English-Icelandic, but I do not think thats a problem for you. The isbn number is 9979-3-1919-4. The book was written by Auður Einarsdóttir, Guðrun Theodórsdóttir, Mariá Garðarsdóttir and Sigriður Þorvaldsdóttir. The price including postage is 3926.00 ISK )about 100 guilders. You can order it by sending a mail to verslun@mm.is

    With kind regards,
