Bárðarbunga is trembling

  • Þ G

    Hello gemeente.

"De Bárðarbunga is het hoogste punt van de Vatnajökull, de grootste gletsjer van IJsland.

Deze door de ijskap verholen berg van 2009 meter is de een na hoogste van IJsland, de hoogste is de Hvannadalshnúkur. De Bárðarbunga is een vulkaan die nog steeds actief is. De vulkaan ligt op ongeveer 27 kilometer noordwestelijk van Grímsvötn"

    And now Bárðarbunga is trembling.

What will happen next, will the tremblings it die out,,,

or increase and end up in a powerful volcanic eruption ?

    Regards

    Hello gemeente.

The end of the magma intrusion is heading horizontally north and is now under “ice free area”

and the quantity is estimated to be 270,000,000 M3.

Slowly approaching the Askja volcanic system.

The earthquake map looks really messy today:

    Hello gemeente.

    “Thar she blows !”

A fissure eruption started on midnight at Holuhraun

    in north of Dyngjujökull.

It still is not a large eruption, the magma is thin and flows fast.

    29.09.2014.

    Hello gemeente.

Now there is one month since the eruption in Holuhraun started

and the eruption is still going strong.

This is now considered to be a large eruption on the icelandic scale

Here are some facts about the Holuhraun eruption:

    * The new lava now covers more than 44 km2

    * In this one month 25,000. earthquakes have occurred on the area

    * 39 of them are stronger than 5+ on the Richter scale

    * The average thickness of the new lava is 14 meters

Few days ago I was able to fly over the eruption on a Cessna 206 from Mýflug and see it with my own eyes, it was fantastic,

and it amazed us to see all the air pollution from the eruption.
